There’s a lot to be said for taking things offline every now and then. We recently gathered a group of our clients for a day away from desks and deadlines, and headed instead to The Smokin’ Elk BBQ School for a hands-on, fire-fuelled masterclass in the art of barbecue.
Tucked away in the Hampshire countryside, the class was led by Elky himself, BBQ expert, all-round top bloke, and a man who knows his way around a grill. From lighting the fire properly to mastering heat zones and knowing when to go direct or indirect, it was a proper introduction to doing BBQ the right way.
For those of us more used to talking plots, phases and marketing plans, it was a welcome shift, swapping laptops for lumpwood and screen time for smokers. A chance to catch up with clients in a setting that felt a bit less business and a bit more brisket.
On the menu?
- Chicken wings with homemade dry rubs
- Jerk chicken wraps with grilled pineapple salsa
- Planked salmon smoked over cedar wood
- Steaks seared to perfection and finished with chimichurri
It wasn’t just about the food (though the food was excellent). It was about good conversation, a few laughs, and the value of spending time face-to-face.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, we loved spending the day with you. And to those who couldn’t make it, you were missed. Hopefully, we’ll fire up the grill again soon!
