Zoopla reveals top 2020 property search terms

Zoopla has revealed their top ten most-searched keywords used by homebuyers in 2020. The top slot was taken by ‘garden’ for the first time – most likely as a result of this year’s restrictions. The second slot was a regular classic in the top spot: ‘garage’. A garage has always been a popular requirement as is parking which closely followed.

You can ensure your properties have the best possible chance of listing for popular key search terms by remembering to represent them effectively across your channels.

The next three search terms are also reflective of the trend, led by social distancing. ‘Detached’, ‘Rural’ and ‘Secluded’ all show a desire to have our own space and distance from other people.

The once unfashionable ‘Bungalow’ made the top ten for the second year running as our older generations seek a one-floor living solution, or alternatively growing families see future development opportunities to add an additional floor.

Finally, the ‘balcony’ made an appearance on the list as people looking for flats and apartments aim for outdoor space of their own.

Website and microsite

Always remember to list in bullet points the key selling points of each property. Make sure it is impossible to miss. It may feel as though you’re repeating yourself, however, that way you ensure it is seen, plus Google will count this towards your ‘keyword density’ which means you might be more ‘relevant’ for the search term.
